We got any sandwich lovers? I’m talking about warm bread, fat stacks of meat, a couple pieces of cheese, EXTRA bacon, avocado, and some spicy chipotle mayo? A good sandwich will fill up your stomach, problem is a couple hours later you’ll be ready to snack again. It’s interesting that in the passage today Jesus refers to Himself as the Bread of Life. What we learn about Jesus is that he is the only one that can fully satisfy our hunger. Some of y’all think what’s missing in you is a relationship, better performance in school, or that next high. Here’s the problem: you might feel satisfied for a moment, but you end up even more empty than before. Jesus wants you to take Him in, to eat from His Word, AND to sit and feed on who He truly is! This isn’t meant to be a couple days of reading. It’s meant to be a part of your walk with Jesus, where every day of your life you’re making moments of feeding on the goodness of Jesus and realizing that He alone will fully satisfy all the cravings of your soul.

“Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.” They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?” Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ” Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven.
“Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” – John 6:26-40 NLT

  1. What’s your favorite type of bread? Better yet, what’s your favorite sandwich? For you gluten-free people, I’m sorry this question may be tough to discuss, but also notice Jesus didn’t say “I Am The Gluten-Free Cracker.” How long do you stay full from that sandwich?
  2. What in life do you go to for satisfaction? Why do you think you go to that thing, person, etc? How long does it satisfy you?
  3. How often do you find yourself taking Jesus in with your everyday life? Are you at all?
  4. What do you think Jesus is trying to speak to you in this passage? Write it out.
